See more than 100 artists in their studios. Featuring many of Liverpool’s finest Artists and their studios. This is an ideal opportunity to meet artists, to discover how and where they produce their work and buy from them directly. Meet and talk to the artists, feel free to ask them about their practice. A variety of works will be for sale, there are workshops, demonstrations and even a barbeque.

This weekend event has been organised by Artinliverpool.com. Timed to coincide with the Liverpool Art Prize and other events taking place during June 2010, it is hoped that it will be a regular annual event.

About My Work:

My work is a hybrid practice that draws together the genres of painting, sculpture and textiles.

It is an expanded practice, but draws mostly on the principles of painting.  It is a complex, yet decorative practice that maintains a highly feminine quality.

It deals with identity and the idea of a feminine space within painting.

Exhibition: This Matter

This Matter is an exhibition that investigates the physical nature of landscapes, drawing together the changing ideas of what is natural and unnatural within our everyday surrounding. This exhibition focuses on the continuous alteration of our environment in which we live and strives to create subtle gestures that have wider connotations towards the world we live in; its perpetual evolution, growth and destruction.

Print works by pioneering figures such as Robert Motherwell, Claus Oldenburg and John Salt and Robert Smithson reconstruction are shown alongside pieces by contemporary artists; Sovay Berriman, Tomas Chaffe, Claire Greenshaw, Ilana Halperin, Celia Hempton, Bobby Niven and Laura Shimmin.

The role of drawing is vital in the relationship between the initial idea and the block of stone.

As the work is loosened from the block, initial ideas and forms are always confronted by new options, some declined and some taken.

The physical nature of stone, coupled with the reductive process of carving, allows new options to be presented at each phase of the work, allowing new forms to challenge the intended plan.

This decision-making process is the most crucial part of carving. As unconsidered options present themselves, the decision as to which route to follow becomes, increasingly, important to the final outcome.

I reverse-engineer instruments associated with art, science, architecture and ritual. Proposing a notional point of convergence between these disciplines.

I deploy these functional sculptures to survey the city’s dark matter of neglected structures and forsaken plots.

Forming spectral, inverted images which intimate four dimensions.

She utilises domestic materials and craft processes in creating work with conceptual weight and emotional depth.
